Barwon Health Carer Support is committed to supporting and maintaining the quality of life of carers and those for whom they care, providing a range of free services to support unpaid family carers living across the Barwon South West region of Victoria.
DAS clinicians provide a range of time limited, integrated clinical treatment and other interventions for people aged 26 years and above who have moderate to severe substance use disorders and co-morbid mild to moderate mental health disorders (e.g., depression, anxiety and trauma).
Barwon Health's Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Services delivers a range of specialist community and hospital-based services for all ages who are experiencing mental health and/or drug and alcohol challenges. Services bring together evidence from research with an understanding of people’s lived experience—what works for them.
The CAMHS team provides consultation, assessment and treatment for infants, children and young people experiencing severe emotional or behavioural difficulties. Pregnant women who have serious mental illness are also provided with assessment and support. An Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnostic service is provided for children and young people aged 0-15 years (except ASD which is up to 25 years of age).
FAPMI offers resources to workers and organisations involved with families where a parent has a mental illness. Resources can include advice, education, primary and secondary consultation. The program also provides support groups for young people who have a parent with mental illness.
The Barwon Health Jigsaw Youth Mental Health Drug and Alcohol service is an integral part of the wiser Barwon Health community Mental Helath Drug and Alcohol service. It Provides specialist mental health service early intervention for young people with or at risk of developing a serious mental health disorder and treatment services for young people with drug and alcohol and/or high precalence disorders. Jigsaw is actively involved in service development and innovation to assist in the national campaign to promote early and effective mental health and drug and alcohol interventions for young people. Referrals are accepted directly from consumers themselves, their families or aGP. Consumers can also present for a face-to-face assessment at any of the nominated sites. To access input from a psychiatrisy, a GP referral is required. Referrals for young people ages 0-25 years are accepted via the Child and Youth triage service on 1300 094188

Aged Psychiatry Services are a Recovery Orientated Community Based Service providing Mental Health Services for people 65 years and over. The service assists people with an existing mental illness and those who develop a mental illness later in life.
The Aged Care Assessment Service provides comprehensive assessment of the care needs of frail older clients and assists them to access the care and services they need. ACAS assessment and approval is required for access to aged residential care, residential respite care and community packages

Supports people looking after a family member or friend who is elderly and frail, has memory loss or dementia. Carer Support Workers help carers to plan and co-ordinate breaks from their caring role and to access available services; this is generally done over the phone but home visits can be arranged. The service also offers emotional support, carer education, support groups and social activities. We provide a planned, aged residential respite booking service. Emergency in-home respite is available 24 hours a day to family carers experiencing a crisis or other emergency.
